Music lyric writing is a complex, mysterious art. Celebrated Australian songwriter Nick Cave has called finding the words to put to his music ‘the most difficult thing he does’. But why is it so hard? And where do we begin? In this workshop, novelist and award-winning songwriter Sam Carmody will examine the process of turning sounds into poetry and discuss the importance that imagery plays in writing effective, memorable lyrics.

These workshops are provided free to the community thanks to funding support from our sponsors, however if you are able to make a donation your contribution will assist us to cover additional costs associated with the Readers & Writers program including travel and accommodation for some of our visiting authors.
